R. C. SHERRIFF (1896 – 1975) signed a 3,5″x 4,5″ card on Oct. 23 1929 in fountain pen ink : “With kind regards from / R C Sherriff / author of / “Journey’s End” / 23/Oct/1929″.
Robert Cedric Sherriff was an English playwright, who is best known for his play Journey’s End, based on his experiences as a World War 1 soldier.
This play premiered in London in 1928, with Colin Clive replacing Laurence Olivier in 1929. The play was directed by James Whale (Frankenstein – 1931).
He also had an outstanding career in film, with his film scripts for a number of classics, including James Whale’s The invisible man (1933 – starring Claude Rains).
