CONRAD VEIDT (1893 – 1943) signed 3,5″ x 5,5″ sepia German post card in black fountain pen ink.
Conrad Veidt was a star of early German cinema. He became a sensation in 1920 with his role as the murderous somnabulist Cesare in Robert Wiene’s Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari.
Other silent roles include Das Wachsfigurenkabinett (1925), Der Student von Prag (1926) and The Man who laughs (1928).
He fled Germany in 1933 after the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and he became a British citizen in 1939.
He made only one color picture, The Thief of Bagdad (1940).
Conrad Veidt died of a heart attack while playing golf in 1943.
